What started as a simple fishing hobby grew into a deep appreciation for fly fishing and the traditional skills behind it.
Over the years, I’ve learned that fly fishing is about far more than just catching fish—it’s about understanding the water, the fish you’re targeting, and the environment they live in.
At Outdoors Unbound, we focus on beginner fly fishing instruction and guided fly fishing trips that go beyond the basics. We teach anglers how to read water, understand fish behaviour, and choose the right flies based on conditions. A good angler knows where fish are. A great angler knows why they’re there.
Fly fishing is an immersive outdoor experience that connects you to the river, the forest, and the natural food chain that supports healthy fisheries. That connection has a way of slowing things down, helping you unplug from everyday life and return home with a renewed appreciation for the outdoors.
If you’re new to fly fishing or looking for a supportive, hands-on guided experience, a trip with Outdoors Unbound may be exactly what you need.

Hey there! My name's Ethan; I'm the owner and a guide here at Outdoors Unbound. While I have my degree in psychology, the outdoors is truly where I'm at home! I found fly fishing while I was working in the fishing department of our local Bass Pro. From there I quickly fell in love with its traditional style, focus on resource management, and the amount of information there is to learn, and eventually teach!
As I began to learn more about fly fishing, I quickly grew interested in tying flies (the lures we use) and experimenting with different styles out on the rivers. It was that fascination that drove me to explore fly patterns and angling tactics as well as different rivers.
Since that point I've been enjoying learning as much as I can about the river, fish, and surrounding environment. It eventually led to my involvement with the Nottawasga Valley Conservation Authority; helping to build better habitat on the Mad river. I've met so many like-minded and caring people that I want to give back to the community and help it grow.
That's exactly why I started Outdoors Unbound, to help bring people into our wonderful world and show them what it's all about. My goal is to help teach you everything you need to get started and provide you with the equipment so you too can appreciate the beautiful ecosystems here in Ontario!

Hello! My name’s Lucas; I’m a young guide and a long time angler. I’ve been tying my own flies for over a decade now, my love of tying flies is what got me hooked on fly fishing right from the start! When I began, many people started to take interest in my work, which eventually led to me tying them for events hosted by Bass Pro along with my greater involvement with the fly fishing community.
I am proud to say that I have never fished or caught a fish with a fly that I haven’t tied myself. Furthermore, I feel that tying flies has given me a wonderful understanding of the life in rivers and how the flies we use mimic the natural food sources trout feed on. It’s my goal to pass this knowledge on to you during our trip!
I also have many fond memories from when I was young, being in a duck blind training dogs with my dad. As I’ve grown, I’ve realized the importance of being able to recall all the fun times hunting, camping, and fishing with my dad and grandpa. The outdoors have always been a part of my life and I am excited to share that love through Outdoors Unbound. Hopefully through our trips I can pass down the knowledge and skills required to help you make those same fond memories out on the river!
